I have literally been doing the exact same makeup routine since I started wearing makeup. It’s what you see in all of my photos – nothing different. Sure, I’ll switch up some of the brands when it’s time to restock, but the process never changes. When I do my makeup in the morning, the goal is simply to give my face a little life. I thought this would be a great time to share, since warmer months are finally coming and I wear really lightweight products that you may want to try. The products featured in this post are the ones I’m currently using, but I’ll also be sure to note my alternative favorites as we go through!
This whole routine actually takes the length of one song (I listen to Spotify as I get ready in the morning) but for all intents and purposes, let’s just call it the 5-step makeup routine.
Step 1: Conceal Under-eyes and Small Imperfections. Let’s not pretend you haven’t heard me complain about my under eye circles. It’s important to me to find a concealer that works without crusting, clumping or disappearing too quickly. There are a few I have grown to love, especially the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, but I’ve recently begun to transition to all-natural products. Cosmetics is one instance I’ve never paid attention to chemicals/ingredients and as of late, that’s been on my mind. I bought the RMS Un Cover-Up Concealer last week, and so far so good! I’ve been using it under my eyes and on my eyelids for evening out my color, around my nostrils (allergies), and anywhere else I’m needing a little correcting.
Step 2: Even Out Skin Tone. Fun fact: I’ve never worn foundation a day in my life. It’s true! I prefer a BB cream or tinted moisturizer. One I continuously go back to (and am currently using!) is the Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer. It seems like it stays on longer than other brands I’ve tried, but since I’m trying the other RMS products, once I run out of my Nars, I will probably give the all-natural a shot here too.
Step 3: Make Eyes Pop. This is where I spend my time. For daytime, I wear MAC Cosmetics Teddy eyeliner. I swear, if they ever discontinue this color I have no idea what I’d do. It’s brown with gold specks which make it soft enough to wear daily. For nighttime, I’ll do eye shadow with the Urban Decay Naked Palette, and Bobbi Brown’s black gel eyeliner. For both, I always wear Loreal Butterfly mascara in blackest black. You’d never know, because I only do one coat, two, max. If I’m going super-minimalist, I just go with the mascara or nothing at all.
Step 4: Add a Little Color. To give my face some sort of glow and texture, I love a shimmery bronzer – but not one that actually sparkles. My favorite is Trish McEvoy in Golden. You apply this as if you were creating a number ‘3’ on your face with your brush: starting at your forehead, curving to your cheekbone and then back out under your jawline. One swipe for daytime, two to three for nighttime. A quick note: I often skip this step in the summer. For blush, I just give a quick little swipe of Nars Orgasm on each cheek…just enough to give myself life. Other blushes I love are the Trish Liquid Face Color and newly, the RMS Lip2Ceek stain.
As for lips, my sister constantly says I have a naturally great color palette, and it always makes me laugh. I can’t argue though, many days just a thick coat of Aquaphor gives me what I need. I also love the Fresh lip treatment, especially Tulip. They condition your lips while also giving a little pop of pink. My third favorite is the Dior Lip Glow, which changes based on your pigmentation (meaning the pink will be different on me than you). I own lots of lip colors, but I tend to alternate between these three the most, as they all provide natural, soft pink tints perfect for spring/summer.
I’m not joking. That’s literally all I do, every day. It’s the perfect routine for a summer day without leaving your skin…naked…if you will.
